Staff Sgt. Loren Gernandt, an engineer with 20th Engineer Brigade, who is representing XVIII Airborne Corps during the U.S. Forces Command Soldier and Non-commissioned Officer of the Year Competition, pulls ahead of the other runners during the Army Physical Fitness Test event at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, July 27. The four-day competition pits eight Soldiers and eight NCOs against one another in order to determine the best of the best from active-duty, National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers under U.S. Forces Command.
