Lance Cpl. Michael R. Douglass, 20, from Big Bear, Calif., is awarded the Purple Heart medal by Brig. Gen. Charles L. Hudson, commanding general of 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward), at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, Aug. 18. Douglass, a machine gunner with Security Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 15 (Forward), 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward), was wounded June 30 while on a vehicle recovery mission in Sangin District. He suffered a concussion when his vehicle detonated an improvised explosive device. Douglass deployed to Afghanistan in March in support of the International Security Assistance Force and is scheduled to redeploy to Camp Pendleton, Calif., in October.
