U.S. Navy Air-Traffic Controller 1st Class Derel Derryberry and U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Vincent Depiazza recover a VS-17 signal marker panel while conducting aircraft landing zone training in support of Combined Joint Task Force- Horn of Africa, at Grand Bara, Djibouti, Jan. 28, 2017. The training, conducted with the Marine Air Traffic Control Mobile Team (MMT), allows Navy Air Traffic Controllers to gain experience, practice constructing an expeditionary airfield, and complete training and readiness requirements. Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa is a multinational effort to conduct theater security cooperation, combat violent extremism and enable freedom of movement within East Africa in order to defend U.S. interests and support aligned regional efforts.
