FORT BELVOIR, Va. (January 19, 2017) Belvoir Hospital's Department of Radiology performs the first Y-90 liver cancer treatment by a military facility in the mid-atlantic region. This palliative treatment it intended to shrink cancerous tumors and is delivered through microscopic "spheres" injected via the arteries feeding the tumor. This type of localized radiation is considered minimally invasive and decreases injury to healthy tissue.
