Army Maj. Dan Collins, JAG officer for the US National Command Element in Southern Afghanistan was awarded the Purple Heart on Oct. 8. Collins received shrapnel wounds when a rocket fired by enemy insurgents on June 29 hit a dining facility on Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan.
