170214-N-XZ522-005 PACIFIC OCEAN (Feb. 14, 2017) A B-1B Lancer from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam and a F/A-18E Super Hornet from the “Golden Dragons” of Strike Squadron (VFA) 192 fly over aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) as it transits the Philippine Sea. The B-1s are deployed in support of U.S. Pacific Command’s Continuous Bomber Presence mission. In place since 2004, the CBP missions are conducted by U.S. Air Force bombers such as the B-1, B-52 Stratofortress and B-2 Spirit in order to provide non-stop stability and security in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. The Carl Vinson Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of U.S. 3rd Fleet. U.S. Navy aircraft carrier strike groups have patrolled the Indo-Asia-Pacific regularly and routinely for more than 70 years. (U.S. Navy photo by Lt. Robert Nordlund/Released)
