Sgt. Oliver Ventura, a Base Defense Augmentation Force Marine with 3rd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, waves vehicles to the inspection site at one of the main entry points here. Ventura, an armory technician from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., and 32 other Marines, volunteered to support 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward)'s requirement to augment the base defense force. The Marines are serving a three-month deployment manning towers, gates and main entry points for eight hours each day.
