U.S. Soldiers assigned to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa's operations directorate are presented the U.S. Africa Command combat patch while deployed to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Feb. 25, 2017. The tradition of the combat patch dates back to World War I when members of the U.S. Army’s 81st Infantry Division were authorized to wear distinctive shoulder sleeve insignia during and following their service in France.
