Sgt. Matt Summerfield, 25, from Mount Carmel, Ill., and Spc Ryon Mullins, 21, from Palatine, Ill., both assigned to the 1744th Transportation Company, take a short break after performing maintenance on Armored Security Vehicles. The 1744th Transportation Company, an Illinois Army National Guard medium-truck transportation unit based in Streator, Ill., sit in the unit's motorpool during maintenance day. Although based in Streator, the company is made up of soldiers throughout all parts of Illinois. The company now provides convoy security for a variety of logistical missions supporting the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) mission on Logistical Support Area Anaconda, located near Balad, Iraq. The company has been mobilized since late June and arrived in Iraq at the beginning of October. With more than 160 Soldiers assigned to the 1744th, Soldiers work around-the-clock maintaining the Armored Security Vehicles and M1114 up-armored Humvees during maintenance day.
