U.S. Marine Sgt. Christopher Payne prepares the rope before Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force soldiers fast rope from the MV-22B Osprey at Somagahara, Japan, March 9, 2017, during the aerial integration training portion of Forest Light 17-1. Forest Light is one of various bi-lateral training opportunities conducted by JGSD and deployed U.S. Marine forces to demonstrate the enduring commitment by both countries to peace, stability, and prosperity across the region. Payne is a squad leader and a fast rope master with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.
