Terry L. White, a performer with the Southern Suns, a Lumbee Indian dance group, performs the “Eastern War” dance in the style of Eastern Woodland Native Americans at Cherry Point’s multicultural heritage day festival, Sept. 15. The Lumbee Indians perform about 75 times yearly, not including their pow-wows and dance classes. White said, “It’s very important to preserve culture. It gives people an identity. If we lose it, then we disappear.”
