Recruits of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, push through the final steps of the Crucible Feb. 15, 2017, on Parris Island, S.C. The Crucible is the 54-hour culminating event of recruit training. Lima Company and Oscar Company are scheduled to graduate Feb. 24, 2017. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
