Sgt. Skyler Mathews, a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oklahoma Army National Guard and a resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, radios his unit notifying them the DShK heavy machine guns manned by soldiers of the Ukrainian army's 1st Battalion, 28th Mechanized Infantry Brigade have finished firing so their fellow Ukrainian soldiers can advance on an objective during a live-fire training exercise at the Yavoriv Combat Training Center on the International Peacekeeping and Security Center, near Yavoriv, Ukraine, on March 16.
The live-fire exercise is part of a block of instruction taught by Ukrainian combat training center staff, who are mentored by members of the Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine. JMTG-U is a coalition made up of servicemembers from the Canada, Denmark, Lithuania, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Ukraine who are dedicated to developing the combat training center and building professionalism in the Ukrainian military.
