Don Makay, the battalion commander, signifying his end of command in a brief ceremony in New York City March 17, 2017. Siegel and his Soldiers conducted the ceremony following the unit activities for the Army's famous "Fighting 69th" as they led the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade up 5th Avenue. The battalion, with its unique Irish heritage, has led the city parade for 166 years. After 12 years, Siegel departs military service to pursue his civilian career.
