U.S. Marine Lt. Gen. Lawrence D. Nicholson, commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force, is greeted by U.S. Navy Capt. Nathan Moyer, commanding officer of the USS Green Bay (LPD 20), underway in the Pacific Ocean, March 21, 2017. Nicholson spoke with Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, a III MEF component currently aboard ships of the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group. As the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed unit, the 31st MEU air-ground-logistics team provides a flexible force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations, from limited combat to humanitarian assistance operations, throughout the Indo-Asia Pacific region.
