Cpl. Alex M. Holt provides security during a vertical assault on Ie Shima Island, Japan, March 24, 2017. The assault took place as part of a certification exercise conducted by Expeditionary Operations Training Group. CERTEX involves vertical assault raids, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief training, as part of a readiness evaluation for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to join the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet. Holt is from Overland Park, Kansas, and a team leader with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, assigned to the 31st MEU, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
