Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyers JS Hamagiri (DD-155), JS Samidare (DD-106), JS Umigiri (DD-158), JS Yudachi (DD-103) and Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) and Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) participate in a photo exercise in the Philippine Sea. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of U.S. 3rd Fleet.
