The cutter was commissioned in Seattle to honor the only Coast Guard Medal of Honor recipient, Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro, who was buried in the veterans’ section of Laurel Hill Memorial Park in Cle Elum after he sacrificed his life to save the lives of more than 500 U.S. Marines at Guadalcanal.
