SEA OF JAPAN (April 9, 2017) Air department Sailors scrub the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) following an aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) countermeasure washdown. AFFF is a mixture of water and highly concentrated detergent used on the flight deck and hangar bay to smother fires. Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group is on a patrol, operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance warfighting readiness and posture forward as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
