U.S. Marines with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division wait for a CH-53E super stallion assigned to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) to land for transportation during an assault support tactics two (AST-2) raid as part of Weapons and Tactics Instructor course (WTI) 2-17 at East Pass Airfield in Yuma Training Range 2301, Ariz., April 19, 2017. AST-2 is an exercise, focused on executing a dual-site, simultaneous night raid with a company sized element that integrates combined arms using the six functions of marine aviation. WTI is a seven week training event, hosted by MAWTS-1 cadre, Which emphasizes operational integration of the six functions of Marine Corps aviation in support of a Marine Air Ground Task Force. MAWTS-1 provides standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications to support Marine Aviation Training and Readiness and assist in developing and employing aviation Weapons and Tactics.
