The battle cross stood at the finish line of the Reconnaissance Challenge, a memorial event held to honor the fallen recon Marines. The challenge consisted of 24 miles of hiking, helocasting, scout swimming, memory challenge, obstacle course, close quarters tactics, live-fire range and two pool stations.
