Senior Airman Jake Tate, 20th Operational Weather Squadron forecaster, reviews his e-mail while on the phone, April 22. Airman Tate was diagnosed with Dercum's Disease in February 2009, which is the third rarest disease in the world according to the National Organization of Rare Disorders. Dercum's Disease is caused by leaky blood vessels and fat nodules that attach to muscles and grow under the skin. They are two to six millimeters in diameter and will push against nerves causing chronic pain and fatigue.
