The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Preble (DDG 88) breaks away from a formation with the Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group after a straits training exercise off the coast of California. Guided-missile destroyers are multi-mission surface combatants which operate independently in support of carrier and expeditionary strike groups.
