JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM (May 5, 2017) Commanding Officer Capt. Mark A. Melson welcomes Sailors’ and Marines’ friends and family members aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) at the commencement of the ship’s tiger cruise. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is returning to San Diego following a seven-month deployment to the U.S. 3rd, 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
