PACIFIC OCEAN– Lance Cpl. Elisamuel Flores, a weapons technician with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, repairs an M4 Carbine for use on an upcoming mission during Composite Training Unit Exercise, May 1, 2017. Ensuring weapons and equipment are properly maintained is an essential factor in small-scale operations, such as raids, in order to swiftly penetrate hostile territory to secure detrimental information and cause chaos and confusion for enemy forces, as well as to destroy adversary strongholds, access to safe havens, and funding for illicit operations. COMPTUEX is the second at-sea training exercise that provides opportunities to sharpen mission essential skill sets prior to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Certification Exercise and Western Pacific 17-2 deployment.
