PACIFIC OCEAN (May 12, 2017) An MV-22B Osprey, assigned to the Ridge Runners of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 163 (Reinforced), takes off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) during an equipment and personnel offload. Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is returning from a seven-month deployment to the U.S. 3rd, 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
