PACIFIC OCEAN – A CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 (Reinforced) transports a M-777 Howitzer from USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) to San Clemente Island during a helicopter support team mission as part of Composite Training Unit Exercise, May 3, 2017. Through ship-to-shore connectors, the Marine Air-Ground Task Force is able to transport massive equipment and masses of supplies ashore, bearing the full force of kinetic combat power or humanitarian assistance – as applicable. COMPTUEX is the second at-sea training exercise that provides opportunities to sharpen mission essential skill sets prior to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Certification Exercise and Western Pacific 17-2 deployment.
