170518-N-RU841-003 SAN FRANCISCO (May 18, 2017) – Navy Recruiting District San Francisco future Sailors look down a hawsepipe of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Hopper (DDG 70), during a ship tour. Hopper is conducting a port visit to celebrate the ship’s 20th anniversary in the city where she was commissioned. Hopper, homeported at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, was commissioned, Sept. 6, 1997, as the 20th Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer. This port visit fell on the heels of 20 years of fleet exercises, including eight deployments to the Pacific, Middle East and Horn of Africa.
