Honorable Alice Walpole, the British Consul General and Head of the British Embassy Office in Basra, and Royal Navy Lt. Cmdr. Michael Jones-Thompson, the United States Division-South liaison officer for the United Kingdom, pay tribute to fallen British service members from the World War I at the Ash Shumalia War Memorial Nov. 11, Armistice Day. The wall bearing more than 40,500 names was originally located in the Naval Dockyard at Maqil, Shatt-al-Arab, only to be relocated brick-by-brick in 1997 to allow for the development of the dockyard.
