Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts shakes the hand of Nebraska National Guard Sgt. Jared Cornell (flight medic) after pinning on a blue and gold Air Medal with a Valor device. Cornell was one of four Nebraska Army National Guard aviators assigned to a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crew who were honored, May 20, when they were presented with the Air Medal with “Valor” device for the bravery they displayed while rescuing a wounded U.S. Special Forces Soldier on Feb. 9, 2017, near Sangin, Afghanistan in the Helmund Province. The four Nebraska Army National Guard Soldiers are members of the Guard’s Lincoln-based Company G, 2-104th General Support Aviation Battalion that returned in April from a 10-month deployment to Afghanistan.
