Lt Col. Robert “Rosie” Rosenthal was a legendary pilot who was assigned to the 418th Bomb Squadron from September 1943 to September 1944 at Thorpe Abbots, England. Rosie flew 52 missions, rather than the average 25. Rosenthal is part of the 100th Air Refueling Wing heritage as the 100th Operations Group auditorium was renamed the “Rosenthal Auditorium” in May 2012. The pilot’s son, Dan, visited RAF Mildenhall and former World War II bases in East Anglia May 8 to 13 during a visit from members of the 100th Bomb Group Foundation.
