U.S. Marine Corps Rct. Cameron S. Burns, an 18-year-old native of Sunapee, N.H., is currently in training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Burns is training with Platoon 2045, Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate June 9, 2017. “I wanted to look back on my life and know I didn’t waste it,” said Burns, who graduated from Sunapee Middle-High School in 2016. “I want to ensure people’s rights are protected; that doesn’t seem like a waste to me.” Approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 49 percent of male recruits and 100 percent of female recruits in the Marine Corps. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Carlin Warren)
