SASEBO, Japan (May 30, 2017) Master-at-Arms 1st Class Melvin Golmond, assigned to Commander, U.S. Fleet Activities Sasebo, rings a memorial bell as the names of the fallen are read at the Soto Dam memorial ceremony May 30, 2017. The annual memorial ceremony is held for the 53 American POWS and 14 Japanese who died building Soto Dam during World War II. Sasebo erected the memorial for both American and Japanese dead in 1956.
