New York Army National Guard Sgt. Yaanique Scott speaks with local news reporters following his award of the New York State Medal of Valor. Maj. Gen. Anthony German, the Adjutant General, presented Scott and three others the Medal of Valor-New York's highest military award for heroism- and the New York State Conspicuous Service Medal to seven New York Army National Guard Soldiers who successfully rescued the pilot of a plane which crashed and burned at Gabreski Airport on Feb. 26, during a ceremony at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Ronkonkoma on Sunday, June 4. The award of Medals of Valor to four Soldiers recognize those who braved the flaming wreckage of a private plane to rescue pilot Richard Rosenthal and the award of the Conspicuous Service Medal is for the three Soldiers who supported the rescue by landing the helicopter near the aircraft.
