Brig. Gen. Andrew W. O'Donnell Jr., 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward) commanding general, addresses the Marines of Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 during a ribbon-cutting ceremony aboard the newly constructed Forward Operating Base Delaram II flightline, symbolizing the grand opening of the most recent aviation asset to 3rd MAW (Fwd) Nov. 30. The runway was constructed by a small detachment of Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 Marines, who were present to view the fruits of their labor. In a total of 66 days, the Marines of MWSS-373 lifted and slammed over 1.2 million square feet of airfield matting, which averaged 2,500 pieces laid per Marine; moved and spread over 225,000 cubic meters of dirt and gravel and reviewed more than 7,800 drafting and surveying points. These are just a few of the vast accomplishments made by the small detachment of Marines and sailors who contributed to the runway project.
