U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Bryan Filyaw, a structures craftsman with the 116th Air Control Wing (ACW), 116th Civil Engineer Squadron (CES), Georgia Air National Guard (GANG), practices stick welding during United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE) Silver Flag 2017 at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, June 8, 2017. A team 41 GANG civil engineers from the 116th ACW are participating in USAFE Silver Flag 2017. The intensive eight-day course involving 155 students from 13 Air National Guard and active-duty civil engineer units simulates standing up a bare base at a deployed location in a hostile environment. The 116th CES not only sent the largest contingency of students to the exercise but is also playing a lead role in command and control and many of the skill-set training classes. The training enables our engineers to operate safely and effectively in both a deployed environment and when our state calls during natural or manmade disasters.
