170612-N-OU129-302 GALLE, Sri Lanka (June 12, 2017) Sailors from the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70) work with Sri Lankan Marines and Red Cross personnel in Galle, Sri Lanka, June 12 to support humanitarian assistance operations in the wake of severe flooding and landslides that devastated many regions of the country. Recent heavy rainfalls brought by a southwestern monsoon triggered flooding and landslides throughout the country, displacing thousands of people and causing significant damage to homes and buildings.
