A juvenile California Tiger Salamander is collected from the Travis Air Force Base, Calif., airfield June 9, 2017 in preparation for relocation to a safer environment. These creatures will emerge from vernal pools on base when high humidity makes conditions optimal. The species is restricted to grasslands and low foothills with pools or ponds that are necessary for breeding. This salamander is listed as endangered or threatened in much of California.
