Chief Warrant Officer Gregory Balvanz, commander of the 56th Army Band, sings to the audience from between the aisles during a holiday concert Tuesday at Carey Theater on Joint Base Lewis-McChord that was arranged exclusively for special needs children and families within the community, that is, children with disorders and conditions like Autism and Cerebral Palsy. Balvanz, the father of a 22-year-old with Fragile X syndrome and Autism, knows regular performances can be overwhelming for families with special needs children.
