Sgt. Randy French, a combat engineer with 38th Engineer Company, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, laughs with a fellow soldier after he was awarded the Purple Heart during a ceremony at the company's headquarters Dec. 14.
