170628-N-PO203-218 BETHESDA, Md. (Jun. 28, 2017) Students from Sussex County Technical High School in Sparta, N.J., begin to submerge their human-powered submarine named Umptysquatch 8, during the 14th International Submarine Race (ISR) held in the David Taylor Model Basin at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division. The mission of the ISR is to inspire students to explore broad areas of underwater technology advancement, foster advances in subsea vehicle hydrodynamic, propulsion and life support systems and to increase the public awareness of the challenges people face in working in and exploring the ocean depths.
