U.S. Marine Corps Rct. John Uebelacker, Platoon 3061, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, swims 25 meters during water survival training June 26, 2017, on Parris Island, S.C. Uebelacker, 18, from Fairport, N.Y., is scheduled to graduate Aug. 25, 2017. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
