SAN DIEGO (July 7, 2017) – Sailors and Marines, assigned to the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22) and the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, man the rails as San Diego passes below the historic San Diego-Coronado Bridge after departing her homeport of Naval Base San Diego for deployment. San Diego is embarking on a scheduled deployment as part of the America Amphibious Ready Group, which is comprised of more than 1,800 Sailors and 2,600 Marines assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), the amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) and San Diego.
