CORONADO, California (July 14, 2017) – Quartermaster 1st Class Sui Gray, assigned to Landing Craft Unit 1, gauges the distance to USS Essex (LHD 1) prior to entering the ship’s wet well during a boarding operation. LCU 1’s mission is to conduct ship to shore movements and assist amphibious ships to obtain training qualifications to meet mission readiness.
