Maj. Gen. James B. Laster, the commanding general of 3rd Marine Division, presents Sgt. Joe L. Wrightsman's son, Macae Garcia, 2, with Wrightsman's Navy and Marine Corps Medal during the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, memorial ceremony at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay chapel, Jan. 14, 2011. Wrightsman gave his life trying to save an Afghan policeman drowning in Afghanistan's Helmand River July 18, 2010. The memorial ceremony honored the lives of Wrightsman and 1st Lt. Scott J. Fleming, who both died supporting combat operations during 3/3's recent Afghanistan deployment.
