Chief Petty Officer Ephesus Hopkins, quartermaster, assigned to Yard Patrol Operations at the U.S. Naval Academy, demonstrates ship handling and navigation while undergoing a craftmaster qualification test aboard a yard patrol craft on the Severn River. During the demonstration, Hopkins is required to show expertise in shipboard navigation and handling, operating procedures and bridge team organization, the same skills he will teach as a midshipman instructor once he achieves full qualification.
