SAN DIEGO (July 26, 2017) Rear Adm. Cedric Pringle, Deputy Director, Joint Interagency Task Force South, speaks to students about the importance of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program and how it relates to life on a ship, during a STEM event aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). This event was part of the annual National Naval Officers Association (NNOA) Professional Development and Training Symposium coordinated with the San Diego chapter NNOA. The Department of the Navy is actively engaged in efforts to improve STEM education in the Unites States in order to ensure that an educated workforce is ready to meet the Navy and Marine Corps manning needs.
