ARABIAN GULF (July 31, 2017) Capt. Michael T. Spencer, oncoming commander, Carrier Air Wing 11 (CVW-11) shakes hand with Capt. Robert D. Westendorff, off-going commander, CVW-11, on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) after their aerial change of command ceremony. Nimitz is currently deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While in the region, the ship and strike group are conducting maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners, preserve freedom of navigation, and maintain the free flow of commerce.
