PACIFIC OCEAN (July 31, 2017) Aviation Boatswain Mate Handling 3rd Class Esmerelda Hernandez, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, assigned to the Air department aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22), directs a UH-1Y Venom, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 161 (reinforced) on the ship’s flight deck. San Diego, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group, with embarked 15th MEU, is operating in the Indo-Asia Pacific region to strengthen partnerships and serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
