Members from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point and the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency transfer a case of unidentified remains, believed to be military personnel, onto a Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules airplane to be transported to Oahu from the Solomon Islands, Aug. 8, 2017. The remains were brought back to DPAA’s Oahu facility for care and attempted identification. Of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II, more than 400,000 died during the war. Today more than 73,000 of those who died remain missing including 558 Coast Guardsmen. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Tara Molle/Released)
